Which direction was it going? North or South? and where were you when you saw it?

It was headed South on I-95 over the bridge in new London towards the Harford area. I was on one of the off ramps in Groton but I caught a good glimpse of it as he drove by. It was on a open trailer being pulled by a silver truck. Like I said I didn't see any wings besides the vertical stabilizer and it was stripped of the front engine cowling on it.

Let's look at this logically:

If it is an actual Hellcat-
Collings example from New Syma Beach?
Weathervane example at Andrews AFB, MD?
MV Crash example from Quonset Point?

If it is a Replica-
2/3 Replica from Quonset Point?
Any Tallichet fiberglass replicas from one of his restaurants?

If it's something that looks like a Hellcat-
Any TBM Avengers?
Anything else?

My money would be on the Martha's Vineyard example from the Quonset Point museum in RI. One look at their newly redesigned website doesn't show any sign of that plane.

This is what the Quonset plane looked like a month ago. Did what you saw look like this?

If it was the quonset plane then they painted it since that last picture This one was navy blue with a star on the fueselage. I didn't think it was a replica because the bulkheads were exposed on the front of the aircraft (where the dolly is attached on the front of the quonset example)
