On 11-8-13 it was announced that the website Preserved Axis Aircraft would be no longer be updated and the domain name would expire. That site had a vast amount of info on existing airframes from all the Axis countries and was truly a monumental achievement. Sincere thanks to Mike and all his efforts to provide accurate and up to date info on many rare and historic aircraft.
Would it be possible to archive his works on another website relating to WWII aviation history? Any thoughts out there?

AAAAAGGGGHHH!!!! That's a great website. This is terrible news.

But as a parent myself, I get where he's coming from 100%.

Which one of you retired guys who lives too far from an airport to do hands on warbird work wants to do something constructive? I'm volunteering you!

I love that site! Hopefully someone will step up and keep it going, it would be sad to see it go. It would be a great addition to WIX.....

Here in Australia the National Library have a program to archive significant websites to cover this exact scenario. In addition to archiving the site contents, it also makes provision for technology changes which might otherwise render the site inaccessible. Does Sweden have a similar scheme?

Regards

Thank-you Mikael for years of dedication...your site will be missed. I hope someone can step in and continue or archive your work as the valuable reference it is.

I concur. Thank you for all of the hard work, the site is (was) one that I find very valuable.

From personal experience I know that maintaining a web site is hard. With full time jobs, family and all sorts of other commitments it is difficult to find time for what needs to be done. My own site suffers because of those issues. I applaud anyone that tries to make information available to those of us who enjo it.

Any way of incorporating some of his site onto the warbirdregistry? Has Scott and Mikael talked about something like this? Whenever there's a will, there's a way...

YES! If Mikael is willing to hand this over to the WIX server, this could easily be continued. The data list is largely complete, and in the last two years updates have only been needed three or four times a year. This does provide a tremendous resource, with photographs of nearly all known axis aircraft preserved worldwide.

I have provided information to Mikael over the years and have always found him to be very congenial and think that he would like to see this continued.

What should be done is change the name to "MIKAEL OLROG's Preserved Axis Aircraft" to give credit to the person who built this data base. Am sure he would enjoy sending submissions to the new webmaster for the page.

it would be a very attractive niche to wix & would surely attract alot of knowledgeable new members who are behind the scenes so to speak worldwide, & with alot of fresh & obscure material!! how much does a domain name sell for anyway??

Need to bump this back to the first page. Who is going to take over the administration of wonderful web site?

I have e-mailed Mikael about the situation. Of course the site would be a good fit here and I would be willing to archive it as is on the WRG servers. I'll talk with Mikael and see what he wants to do.

Hope Mikael and you can come to an agreement to preserve all his work and the material supplied by the many contributors. A win-win for all!
