Evergreen P-38 for sale

I'm confused.

I was at the Tillamook blimp hanger a couple of weeks ago and the plane there was "Tangerine". Looks nothing like the plane pictured.

Sorry, couple of beers into the evening, but....

I thought Evergreen owned all of the planes there.

Is the McMinnville operation different from the Tillamook one?

Are there two P-38's in Oregon?

I can't help but wonder if we won't start to see the valuable potential flyers sold off to support the infrastructure now that it appears their major benefactor is going away. This happened a bit at the Air Zoo with the sale of the Bearcat and F7F and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if more of their potential flyers are sold off as it becomes more of an aviation theme attraction than a museum. The sale of these type of airplanes goes a long way to supporting the operation or capital campaign. I have never been to Evergreen but I imagine that most visitors probably wouldn't notice if a few of the aircraft that could be sold as warbirds disappeared.

Perfect timing! I just finished the book "Aces High" by Bill Yenne...the story of the "competition" between Bong and Maguire. Forgive my ignorance, but are any of the P-38s currently painted to represent Pudgy V or the Lightning that Bong scored his 40th kill in? Has there been any serious effort to try and find he remains of Pudgy V? I understand that Maguire's body was recovered and buried at Arlington...was curious if what was left of Pudgy had been found and possibly retrieved? Does anyone know if there is an ongoing effort in New Guinea to retrieve any of the hundreds of aircraft that were shot down on both sides? I understand that the terrain there is not conducive to any retrievals being easy. Or is the New Guinea government even open to the idea of letting people find and retrieve the remains of what is there?

Sorry for so many questions...maybe should have started a different thread. The "Aces High" storyline would seem to make for a great movie...and with so many flying Lightnings around, having some real aircraft in the movie would be even better.

There is a Marge in Oshkosh, and i didn't see it while i was there but i was told of another in northern Wisconsin, possibly in Superior.

The P-38 at NMUSAF is painted to resemble one flown by Royal Frey, a former Curator.

There are at least two P-38s painted as "Marge."

One at the EAA Museum in Oshkosh.

The other at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior, WI.

Hmm.. Hit the Lottery, Buy the P-38 , Paint it up as YIPPEE, do the airshow circuit for a few summers...
