This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

One of my friends remembers playing on the F7U as a boy. From his descriptions (he is an aviation buff as well), the airframe was essentially a stripped down hulk. You could climb into the intakes and crawl your way through to the exhaust. I imagine the FJ-4 would have been in similar condition.

I agree it still sucks. When I submitted an inquiry about the planes, I was hoping that maybe they were stored on a back storage lot.

My contact at the MNCPPC seemed almost regretful that the planes were scrapped. She indicated that they have received a number of queries about the planes as many adults had very fond childhood memories playing on those planes.

Even though I lived in the area when these planes were still at the parks, I never visited those parks until the planes were long gone

List of survivors in the latest Aeroplane Monthly...

Thank you, Airnutz.

One of these days I'll take a drive to Tyler and check the Fury.

The list of FJ survivors is of course, incomplete and shows the FJ in Hickory NC as being an incomplete airplane. Probably Brandon can verify that the same FJ that I saw a couple of years back at that airport, is still there, and complete?

Saludos,

FJ-3M Bu 141393 now in full colour scheme for the first time in many years. (Kyle Kirby)

The picture and info below come directly from the f-86.tripod.com website:

Serial Type Location/Details
Bu 141393 FJ-3M Hickory Municipal Airport, Sabre Society of North Carolina

*Nose and tail of FJ-3 Bu '135965' also noted at Hickory Oct00.

Not too sure of how recent this is, but I'll be heading over that way soon and can check on whether it is still there. I know that the Sabre Society of NC has had some major financial difficulties.

FJ-3 ( Bu# 135774) is at the Evergreen Air museum, in McMinnville, Ore. She is inside as a static display. Currently painted up in VMF-333 colors ( with BU# 136119 painted on the tail! Don't ask me why ;)) She actually flew with VMF-122.

Is this the Fury that Bob Sturges had for years? I have a 1972-era photo of that one somewhere when sitting in Troutdale.
