Now the Intrepid at one time had two tigers the Register has the one on there now but does anyone know what happen to this one,

F11F-1F Bu3 141884 c/n 201 last reported with the Intrepid this is the last Tiger Build.

141884 is still at the Intrepid I believe

Any idea on what F11F was at NAS Memphis? I have several shots I was going to send to Scott of it but there is no Buno markings on it. Does anyone know where that went?

Also the USS Hornet has a nose section of one; I failed to get a picture of it. But it is visible in one of the FJ shots posted.


Does anyone also know what happened to the AV-8 (A or C) that was at NAS Memphis and does anyone have the Buno for that also?

AV-8C BuNo. 158710 now at Quonset Air Museum. I don't know if it is really part of the USS Saratoga group, as their web site says they have an AV-8B on loan to Quonset. Does Quonset have two Harriers, or is someone at the Saratoga website just a little confused?

A few notes on F-11s:

138619 was still in Wilmington in Apr05.

141735 was at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Sciences in Durham (l/n May92). It was given to a university in the Raleigh area for restoration and display in the mid 90s. I have never heard of it since although an unidentified F-11 was sitting on the ramp at Goldsboro MAP NC Jul98-May99. Anyone know if it is still there?

The unidentified Memphis machine was still there in Apr04.

One crucial thing when compiling survivors lists is to list the last noted (l/n) date. It makes it much easier to trace movements and eliminate aircraft from enquiries!

I was there last fall and did not see it out in the open. I suppose it could have been in a hanger.

My understanding is that circa 2003 the community college that was using it as an A+P maintenance trainer gave it to a museum in Tennessee. I had a deal with the guy who was taking care of disposing of it that if the museum didn't come get it, I would.

Unfortunately, I deployed for Iraq before they closed the deal and never found out what happened to it.

Thanks for confirming that the Goldsboro machine is 141735, I've been trying to find that out since I saw it there in Oct98!
As a matter of interest, the Wayne Community College registered an F-11 as N81682 in Oct05, although it has since been re-registered to American Warplane Heritage Inc of McMinnville, Tennessee. Anyone know anything about this outfit?

Does the F11F really sit that low to the ground or are these aircraft in the photos just have their struts fully compressed? What was the normal strut extension? I've never met anyone that flew an F-11F , Did they have a problem on landings with the ground effect both from the wings and fuselage that close to the tarmac?
Are they a FOD magnet with the intakes that close to the ground?

Yes, the F11 does sit that low to the ground. I believe the pilots did have problems landing. They also had lots of engine problems.
