A-26 44-35643 status?

Thu Dec 05, 2013 11:39 pm

I followed their monthly newsletters for years, then about a year and a half ago the newsletters stopped. They (CAF) were doing an excellent restoration on the old Daisy Mae, up in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Does anyone know if this restoration is still ongoing?

No I'm sorry I don't. But if you like the a-26, you can follow the combat veteran " reida rea" from Windsor locks,ct. The New England air museum

Thanks, Whistling. That's a fine looking Invader.

Brad, Randy Wilson, any of you CAF guys know whats going on with the A-26 in Guthrie? Would be great to see her in the air again.

I wish I could tell you but I truly don't know. This one seems to have fallen through the cracks. There was a time when the CAF Dispatch magazine used to give status reports on airplanes and projects but that seems to have considerably changed over the last few years. It has become more of a history magazine with very minimal mention of the airplanes themselves. I still like it but it's not nearly what it used to be.

Thanks, Brad. I remember for years you could get the status of each plane easily. Hard to figure why they would stop making that available. The newsletter for this Invader went on for about 7 years until sometime last year. I just hope it is still being worked on after all the effort those guys had put in to it to get her airworthy again.

Hi George - I haven't heard anything about the A-26 being restored by the Sierra Hotel sponsor group for some time, either. I checked with a friend who flies one of the other CAF A-26s with the Invader Squadron, and he mentioned there was an A-26 ground school scheduled for the middle of January in Enid, OK, and he thought some of the SH folks were going to attend. Maybe he can provide an update after that.

I'll also pass on the comments about aircraft updates in The Dispatch to the editors.

Randy

Thanks much, Randy. By the time their last newsletter went online, July 2012, both engines were hung, and they had installed a proper nose, and also a top turret. Really look forward to any updates you might hear about after next months' A-26 school.
