Thanks for the heads up! But why did the neam give it away since its such a nice piece to have?

It wasn't theirs! It was only on loan and someone had more pull to get it back.

NEAM had the parts to fix it, but not the resources. The museum asked the Air Force if they would like it back to find a better home. Hill AFB Museum was the choice! It's in good hands and I think they have fixed the tornado damage but not restored her yet. I spent a lot of time in the cockpit giving Open House tours! Every time I'm on a ramp with a KC-135, I look at the very similar entry way and have pleasant flashbacks!

Jerry, when did it leave ct? From the looks of it there's seems to be work done to it,( don't know if the engine is still bent,) but no total restoration. Was it the boards choice or mike special call to let it go to another suiter?

Even unrestored, the B-47 is simply a beautiful plane. No amount of worn paint or corrosion can hide those beautiful lines.

Speaking of B-47s..I've never heard a GOOD explanation of what happened to the one at Pease..or was it Plattsburgh?
The NMUSAF says they did get some parts from it, then it was sent to Ellsworth, but they couldn't put it back together (which seems odd to me, if it was whole/uncorroded at it's last location, what happened in the meantime?).
My guess, is the NMUSAF used it as a parts source for their RB-47...than came up with the "can't put it back together because of condition" to cover the fact that they "killed" a rare airframe (about 21 left by some accounts).
Anyone know more?

Mike would've had to run if by the board, but I believe it was the correct decision. The last pieces probably left about 10 or so years ago.

If it's 52-0410 you're referring to, there are substantial sections of her in a private collection in Ohio.

Was there a trade for it at all? Considering there's only 20 something airframes left, I would have held onto that one,( if it was possible for the Musuem.)

This one still isn't at the range is it?

How did that happen?
Did Ellsworth (or NMUSAF) sell the remains? Can they do that?
Anyone know if there is another nose and parts available to make it whole again?

The "pride of the adirondacks" is still at PLB.

I'm not sure how, exactly. The surviving sections I'm aware of are the nose and part of the aft fuselage/tail section. I don't want to say too much out of respect for the owner's privacy.
