That's just down the road from me. I asked about local pick up.

These end bell caps are super rare. Other than the two I've got that will eventually wind up on the Memphis Belle, this is the only other "confirmed" complete one that I've seen for sale. As near as I can tell from looking at mine, if you have one of these, you can use it as a pattern to replicate the other. They appear to be the same part. I took one of mine and held it up on the Memphis Belle II when it was in town last year. I don't see any difference between the Left side and the Right side. If somebody gets this and duplicates them for other ball turret owners, they could probably more than cover their costs for duplication by a long shot and I can stop trying to figure out how to cost effectively duplicate mine here in St. Louis. These caps really do turn the ball turret back into a "ball". They look really cool on turret and I'd love to see a set on every ball turret out there!

I assume posting it on a forum dedicated to warbirds likely could have had something to do with that...

As it should be posted here and possibly brought to the attention of some of the right people in the B-17 business. You can thank Nathan for that. Hopefully bringing it to the attention of some folks on WIX perhaps someone here who is close to a B-17 is bidding on it. Good job Nate. Not everyone knows where everything is for sale and it's nice to see that some here are looking out for such items. Hopefully someone else who is not dedicated to warbirds will not purchase it to make a lamp shade out of it.

Only a few B-17s could use them -

Paul Allen's
Memphis Belle
Boeing Bee
Us

Most of the Gs didn't have trunnion caps.

Please note that we do have a bid on them at this time,
and would like to not have to hand over an R-1820
to pay for it.... :D

Wow, I should have not posted anything about it I bet I coulda got it for $19 bucks then resold it to one of you guys. It's now at $250! Oh well I hope it goes to a good home. I figured it was rare. Besides, I just brought home a 75 gal drop tank from a P-51 that does not have one tend in it. So Im doing well with my airplane part fix for awhile.

Thanks for the kind words, Mark. Indeed I was thinking of the people working on B-17's right now and some have little to go by. Any little part helps! :drink3:

I would gladly donate a little money for you guys to try and get it. It needs to go to a B-17 restoration. :drink3:

I like the honesty. Good luck on the auction. Any idea who the other bidders could be?

One hour to go. I can sympathize with DryMartini, I've been in that position on eBay, it sucks. I'm getting ready to sell some parts on eBay in 2014, after I find more Seawolf turret parts for DanK and the Sperry parts for the USAFM. I guess I'll be getting an education on what it's like to be the seller. One thing's for sure, this end bell cap looks like prime ground for snipers. I suspect it's being watched by at least three off shore people. The last five minutes should be the most interesting. FWI DryMartini, I have not alerted anyone on my contact list to this listing. I would not do that to you. Good luck.

$362.00, a steal! Hope it went to a good home!

I am REALLY hoping this went to a good home where it will be put back in a 17 and not into someones private collection being how rare it is. I was really hoping that the desert rat restoration team secured it but it doesn't look like it :(

Just wondering if I'm reading this correctly. FWIW Absolutely NO negative thoughts towards anyone for any reason.

Let me see if I get this straight. Was it wrong for someone to post a thread on WIX about an airplane part for sale on Ebay? Why is that? How would he/she know someone here is after that part? I get the point about this is WIX and there's people who would be interested, but I only see Nathan's post as a good thing, but maybe I'm missing something. Did he ruin a chance for someone to purchase this part much cheaper by posting it here? The part is on ebay, it's gotten a lot of looks no matter whether it was brought to WIX's attention or not. Warbird people everyday, that have nothing to do with WIX, search ebay for parts such as this.

What position? and what sucks? not trying to stir anything up here just want to understand what you guys are talking about. If I come across a warbird part on ebay or elsewhere for sale shall I not bring it to anyone's attention here on WIX? I haven't a clue who is involved or not with warbirds and who is looking for certain parts or not. Go ahead educate me so I don't screw up.

If Martini's group is after it I too hope they get it as well without losing an engine. Sounds like the best place for it.
