Re: early b-17 ball turret side panel window on ebay $19!

I first saw the item here.

would have loved it, watched and even considered throwing a good some of money on it.

but reality kicked in and so I watched and hoped it went to a collection that would make good use of it.

There should be more sharing of such information and not just from evilpay, but from where ever we find it.

Job well done I think.

So, is there the odd chance a thread like this turns into a WIX sticky?

A scrounger could surf ebay 24/7 and never uncover every mislabelled item that could be of value to the warbird movement.

For example, here's an item for sale off a "Billy Bomber". Is its function really what the vendor describes? Rare? Common? I don't know. Perhaps someone can clarify.

I mentioned the J-3 prop, Convair control wheels and Bell 47 fin as examples of stuff I have and don't think of as rare.

My Bell 47 fin is odd, it's fabric covered, not the plywood type I've seen on Bell 47s...and I used to fly them.
I have no idea what variant its off of...even after looking through the new, massive Bell 47 encyclopedia, all I know is I got it from ebay 15 years ago.

Well I thought I was done with you folks after I sold the ball turret end cap but heres a little irony for you my 1st encounter with anything that had anything to do with warbirds was listing this end cap which I found back in july today I bought a big box of vintage motor trend mags. and in the bottom was about 20 air classic mags and 4 pamplets asking for donations to help with the resto.of the piccadilly lilly ll right here about an hour away which i never new until today so not to temp faight and to help my fellow califorians I am going donate $50.00 from the sale of the end cap to this in the name of wix if thats ok I was encouraged by all the talk I heard about on this sight about how folks donate parts heres a couple of of websits that were on the pamplet (Keepem.flyin@verizon.net) and (swahn@earthlink.net) incase there someone who might have somthing to donate I'm thinking alot of you are familiar with this plane and it statis so let me know.

Looks like a camera port for a recon bird. Could be one of a couple of NAA aircraft.

I think it's fine it got on here, More exposure the better. I have sold some pretty rare stuff in the past and it's been nice that some of the really rare stuff is no longer sitting on my shelf collecting dust. So they did end up going to some big names on WIX and the Warbird Community. to be in the right hands with the right people and that made me feel good about letting it go.

perhaps the person who bought it wants to keep anonymous in preventing any bombardment of new offers for the part?

Don't camera ports have flat glass rather than convex lenses? I thought it was part of a retractable landing light with those hinges and canvas cover.

Or they're not on this forum (believe it or not, plenty of people into warbirds have never even heard of this forum).
Or, they simply wanted the item bad enough to pay what they had to, to have it for their collection.
I personally have zero problem with that, if that's the case.

I'm guessing B-25 photo recon version, the F-10. Maybe the seller is being clever by saying billy bomber instead of mitchell?
