This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hello All! I spoke with Ashley Ezell the other day and got an update on the P-38. He mentioned, "Yeah, we need to do an update for the website". So here it is! They have put quite a few parts for the P-38 into the computer for CNC forming and machining, especially with the fighter nose...... hint, hint for all of those P-38's coming from around the Pacific Rim! Setter, we want to see pics!!!!! lol..... Alan

Is it my imagination or are they using some of the original hoses and lines in the rebuild. If they are wouldn't they want new ones since it's torn down this far?

I would imagine that the old lines are used as route patterns for new.

What's a restoration like this one cost today?

Wow! Intricate work - looks beautiful. The ultimate in "model building", eh?
Markings?? Same?? I vote for 459th FS
Twin Dragons, forgetting for a moment that the 459th didn't apply their big dragons on each boom until they got Js -
or did they, heh heh.
It would look more "sharkmouthish" . . .

Am I assuming correctly that they are returning her to the original stock condition instead of " as modified to white lightening " race condition?

I think its great that they have such regular updates. They do a better job keeping their website uptodate than most major avaition museums do!

I remember seeing her at the Okc airshow back in the 80's.
The show Lefty put on is still number one on my "holy crap I am impressed" meter.......
guess I'd better start playing the lotto too.
This airplane's history deserves to be remembered and not turned into a footnote as a "used to be"

Nelson managed to find another set of early style chin cowlings for the airplane..... Lots of new skin on the airplane..... I'm not into betting, but I think this P-38 will glow from all of that highly polished aluminum! Along the lines of their B-25 (ex Fairfax Ghost), which was also restored by Nelson...... Alan
