B-17's Coming to Colorado in 2014?

Mon Feb 03, 2014 1:47 am

All-

Anyone have the skinny on any B-17's that are coming to Colorado in 2014? It's finally time for me to take a ride.

My Grandfather was a bombardier with the 96th during WWII, and I want to experience even just a little bit, for even a short time, what he experienced in his time during the war. Perhaps someone can tell me, is it possible to ride in the nose of the Fort?

If any of our B-17 folks here are gonna be coming, let me know. I'd love to come out with a few of his items to share with your eyes. I have his log book, a few maps, lots of photos, and even the Sperry directional gauge out of his B-17 after they crashed outside Snetterton Heath. Would enjoy talking shop with folks as passionate about B-17's as I am, and would be the folks helping me connect, even for just a short while, with my Grandfather.

If you go to the aerovintage site, they post links to all the touring B-17 websites. You can keep checking the schedules as most of them keep developing throughout the year. And yes you can get in the nose of the aircraft. Almost immediately after takeoff you are free to roam. The only things typically off limits are the tail and ball turrets.

If they stay true to form, The Collings Foundation should be in the Denver/Fort Collins Loveland area around the 4th of July. I took a ride on their B-17 about 15 or so years ago. Worth every penny!!!
