So at least three saw some operational service; nice simple little plane. What was the issue that kept them from being produced in quantity?

Probaby the double edged sword of 'we're up to our fannies in primary trainers already' coupled to apprehesion and distrust of 'that thar new fangled molded fuselage doo rah mouldy stuff' of like the Oak City clown college being leery of CFRP in the 787 today.

Wow, the Ryan YO 51 looks almost like a Ki 76 Stella. The Japanese made a lot of Stellas. The were one of the most common Japanese planes in theatre. None exist today. Thanks for posting.

Was looking through my Photobucket account and couldn't resist posting this photo of my 1926 Ryan M-1 (now at Creve Coeur) in formation with Gary Kozak's STM over Brodhead, Wisconsin around 2002. Not sure who the photographer was, maybe Nigel Hitchman.
