It is NOT a corsair. It is about a 75% scale mock up. The outer wings are ercoupe. The gull center section is welded from galv pipe and pop riveted and welded galv sheet. The fuselage is galv pipe and it goes on and on...
It's never going to fly, and the guy never intends to try. He told me years ago it was for his grand kids and he wanted to start the engine (forgot which one he has on it, 985 maybe or something smaller) and taxi it around his property( which is NOT flat).
So you guys can figure out the rest.
Chuck

I guess he could use the tailhook to pull a plow...

This brings me to the question of a real Corsair that truly is in N. California....Only this one is an early bird-cage model...

Anyone care to bite?

O.k..it's late and Dale jr. Just won the D.500..I'll say ...P.O.F ??...

Wouldn't be surprised if it was the POF Corsair. One of the ground crew members on the Planes of Fame Fighter Tour (that was awhile ago- 2003, I think) told me POF had a birdcage canopy for the Corsair they were planning to install some day.

Chuck, thanks for the good info. I guess on his part it's a pretty noble idea

A nice gift for the kids! But one way to cause a massive accident on the highway if any one of us ever drove by!

Lock the brakes and jump over the highway wall. "Be right back honey, put the flashers on would ya!"

You really can't see it from hwy 50 as it's blocked from view by terrain. You either have to drive by the house and barn or fly over it (that's how I found out about it).

I think some of you guys are confusing the birdcage canopy with the early braced hood in regards to the PoF Corsair. I don't believe it was ever a bird cage but it did sport the early blown hood with the extra horizontal bracing.

Something like this:

Unlike the later canopy currently on the airplane.

F4U Folks:

..mmmm that canopy on "799" looks more like an F4U-4 type!

When I say 'birdcage' I mean 'birdcage'

'nuff said.

It's been fun. If you don't know, that's fine, join the crowd.

Maybe it's the elusive birdcage razorback p-43 lancer with the special gull wing.
