CAF airplanes moving out of Cavanaugh Museum.

On behalf of the Vintage Flying Museum, we are THRILLED to be able to host these aircraft in what was originally designed to be a B-29 maintenance hangar! We can not thank the B-29/B-24 Squadron enough for giving us this opportunity. I guess we didn't scare them too bad a couple of years ago when we hosted FIFI while the runway at Addison was being worked on.

This is not a negative thing. This is a terrific example of different groups within the Warbird Community working together to benefit EVERYONE involved! CFM gets more hangar space, CAF gets a new home for a couple of their aircraft and VFM gets to house 2 of the most unique aircraft in the world! The increased publicity and visitors is obviously a huge benefit as well.

I think this could be an example of what other struggling museum's could do to survive and preserve historic aircraft in these tough economic times. Partner with other like-minded groups, pool resources and work with each other and not against.

Amazingly I only had to move the F-86 out of the main hangar into our storage hangar and re-arrange 3 or 4 other planes to make room for a B-24 in the hangar. Now fitting the B-29 in will take some more imagination, but we'll fit her in and I don't think we'll have to put anything out in the weather.

Bill, your enthusiasm and the help of your volunteers is very much appreciated. I am anxious to visit you sometime during the next week or so.

I do have to agree with what Brad said in an earlier post about our gratitude toward the Cavanaugh folks. They are good friends to us and we look forward to a long and very friendly relationship with them.

And I do like what you say, Bill, about like organizations helping one another. That is exactly the attitude it is going to take to keep these old airplanes flying and delivering the stories of the Greatest Generation to future generations.

Catalina? C-46? Constellation? C-119? C-97? Ford Tri Motor?
There- those are the only large planes I can think of that would be avalilble, that you don't already have...

See now this is the problem with this board- we take an unsubstantiated rumor that can be somewhat inflammatory and start to some great battles and then a few rotten eggs go and spoil with Facts, common sense, and courtesy. Just imagine what the warbird community would be like if everyone treated everyone like that I mean MY GOD- Facts, respect, man helping his fellow man- just inconceivable- why you would almost think we all have a common goal and purpose hear

Well I for one really like the CAF, and am very appreciative when they come visit us up in Michigan during the TOM shows. I look forward to seeing them again this August.

I'm happy to report that the CAF's B-24A Diamond Lil is now safely tucked away inside the VFM hangar, thanks to the combined efforts of VFM and CAF personnel. We had to shuffle several airplanes around, while also dealing with a couple of big tour groups (including a whole busload of elementary school kids, who seemed to be thrilled to witness all of the goings-on!). Before we moved the Lib into the hangar, Rick and his crew ran up the engines out on the ramp, much to the delight of a group of senior citizen Veterans who came out to tour the Museum today! I managed to grab a few quick snapshots while working the ramp, and here's my favorite, taken during the engine runups:
