This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I am looking for some WWII aerial and ground pictures of the Kissimmee Army Airbase. I havent seen any in the books that I have read concerning Florida air bases during the war. It was a training field for P-61s and P-70s and may have been fairly secretive.

Chuck:
If you do not have this book, let me know and I'll look for it in my library:
There is a series of books that document with photos, history on cities across the U.S.; some of them are clearly military (devoted to specific aircraft manufacturers) and their covers are usually in sepia color.
The book I am thinking about, is titled "Aviation in Florida" and should have at least one photo of the Kissimmee airfield.
If you do not have it, please let me know.
Have you also tried "Abandoned Airfields of North America"??

Tulio

Here are 2 sites that may help you find what you are looking for. Also there is a museum on the premises of the Kissimmee site,I believe it is still Tom Reilly's Flying Tiger Museum and they may be able to help you

Thanks for some tips. I dont have the books you mentioned Tulio. I will look for them (unless someone wants to sacan a picture for me).
The Flying Tigers museum closed in the summer of 2004. Thats a year and half ago for those of you who may not know of this. All of the parts, planes, and museum items are currently being removed. All will be cleared out in two months. It is sad to see to see peoples faces when they come by to visit it and we have to tell them it is long gone. They come here every year on vacation from all over the world. It was a big attraction in central Florida for a long time.
Warbird Adventures is still open for business. We would love to take you flying in the T-6!

Chuck,
I had no idea that Flying Tigers closed. I went there a couple of times when I was in town. I’m from Tallahassee originally so I spent some time there as well.
I have a lot of Florida WW2 info, I’ll look around and see what I can find. You might want to check the State of Florida archives. They have a great collection of WW2 photos:
