This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Not only is it bad enough these paint schemes are all sexed up to look purdy, but to have multiples of the same markings seems a disservice to the rest that flew the darn planes. Last I checked, there were more than 20 aviators who took part in WWII. I love the unpolished, scuffed, dull paint on "UPUPA EPOPS" and THAT is how you honor the people that flew them.
IMO. But in the end, they're still flying, and that is what ultimately counts, and that's what makes me happy.

Wow that is sad. What's worst about it is that it could be parts or a base for a restoration but if you were to approach the owners about acquiring it, their eyes would turn to dollar signs as they imagined getting rich on Mustang-shaped metal.
Where is it?

The owners are the United States Air Force. It a very rare P-51H at Lackland AFB, Tx

Isn't the P-47 at Lackland an N-model painted as Gabreski's D?

Whole squadron of AVG P40's, flying and static - any other ID's totally sidelined.

Here in New Zealand we have two de Havilland Beavers painted as the RNZAF's sole Antarctic Flight Beaver, one flying and based at Ardmore, the other static and based at Wigram. The real Beaver is probably still in that colour scheme too, it was crashed in the Antarctic and left down there, no doubt covered in ice now 60 years later.

I'd love to see a warbird look like it just returned from the combat zone.
A Fire Bomber that looks like it came in from a retardant drop.
An Executive version.
I'm just sayin'

I know what you mean, Gary - I'd like to see the B-17F Boeing Bee with its training field codes and name Patricia put back on, but I doubt that will happen...
