I was out at the Glendale airport this evening and saw the CAF TBM that is based in Grand Junction, CO on the ramp. I went by the plane on the way out and saw that is had been damaged, one prop tip was missing about 6 in, all the other blades had strike damage, one blade was even passed it's stop and was feathered, There was some damage around the oil cooler and fwd edge of the bomb bay doors, the left wing is buckled about mid aileron and scraping damage on all the aileron hinges. I am not sure when it happened, but it had to have been in the last couple of days. Looks like it will be getting a truck ride home.

Hopefully no one was hurt.

The rest is metal and money.

Andy

The good news is no one was hurt. The CAF Rocky Mountain Wing has extensive write up on the incident and their plans for recovery of the aircraft and repairs in their most recent newsletter.. http://www.rockymountainwingcaf.org/new ... 14/Apr.pdf

Here's is to hoping that is the worst of it for CAF aircraft this year!

Fly safe,
Chris

Great writeup and a fantastic example of acting quickly to get in front of rumors and speculation on the part of the Rocky Mountain Wing. Here's hoping they can get her back up and in the air ASAP... best of luck to the entire group!

Back around 1970 I used to ride my bicycle about 15 miles to Simsbury Airport to see the ex-Canadian Simsbury Air Service TBM sprayers, including this one.

Cool! A "local" back in the day. I've heard for years that TBMs were there. Been there for a couple of the flying. Do you have any photos of the avengers?

When I get a chance, I'll scan the TBM slides that I have from Simsbury. The last wingless hulk that was by the road has been flying for years, first being restored by Grumman Test Pilot, Corky Meyers.

I have some old prints filed away somewhere that I'll need to scan one of these days. I climbed all over the wingless one that was parked down by the road. Also the BT-13/15 stripped center sections that were off in the weeds.

Here is how we moved that same TBM around Phx years earlier, it was towed from Falcon Field to Metrocenter mall and back, about 65 miles.

The TBM flew home last Saturday after 28 months of repairs. Pilot reported no issues and the plane is flying great.
