Looking for a prop blade ... Why? ...

Sun Apr 27, 2014 6:23 pm

... A real good guy I know who is working very hard on a nice CAG-11 display to be located on the USS Hornet (museum) would like a single blade. The attached photos below give an idea as to the reason. This single blade will be "dressed up" as one of the blades in the photos. I think it's a great idea and will be a nice addition to his display on board the ship in November of this year. (Alameda, CA)

Anyone know of one sitting around? (That someone on eBay is NOT asking $1,200.00 for?) please feel free to PM me if you may know something of interest.

I'm not sure by the photos but aren't most of the blades Hamilton Standards? I'm not a prop expert so I can't tell for certain.

Thanks much in advance.

Mark, I'd think such a thing would be pretty easy to "fake" for a display of this kind. A chunk of wood, some carving, some sanding, a can of flat black spray paint and you're in bidness.... :?

Although I agree, I would like see if there may be something out there that is more the 'real deal'. Your option is certainly a good alternative though and most likely the more practical.

If there's a will ... There's a way

Thx David for the heads-up. Getting closer. Also thx for the PM's folks, mucho appreciated all.
FWIW My preference would be this; If it were up to me to display anything that is to reflect as close as possible to the real thing, for not the real thing, I would be hard pressed not to try at least to find an exact example. This is especially true if it is to be displayed in a museum. My home, office, man-cave or a hangar is one thing, but a legitimate museum at least deserves a better effort. Snakes idea is a good one, but again I would like to see what I can find closer to reality, without having to buy an actual warbird to get one.

Those are marvelous.

Kind of awkward to carry home. I wonder if they were brought back to the US after the war.

Thanks much, yes I'd like to know what you can find out. We've got a nice pair of prop blades from an online auction going on right now as well. Nice to have a few options though.

Thanks again,

M
