... the scream effect happens.

After surfing the net for a few hours tonight and looking at peoples home movies online, I am finding that there is a common bond that ties us warbird, airplane, and warplane (modern) enthusiasts together... we are the ones who scream with primal overtones when a "kick tushy" or "bitchen'" flyover happens. It's the moment of pure adrenaline that us ground-bounds get at shows, or for those that are in the air, the moment when something so darn cool happens, that we have no choice but yelp.

The movies I was watching were diverse... the last takeoff of the Concorde (which is pretty heart-pumping anyhow), a supersonic F-14 flyby out at sea, a B-17 coming in low, a close Unlimited racing chase of the two in the lead... all amazing moments.

My question is, what was the last big "yelp" moment you had in the last year?

Mine was a certain F4U flyover as a first place. Second being B-17 Liberty Belle doing a flyover of Geneseo close to dusk with not too many people around...

Any high speed ( 500+ kts) low, F-4 Phantom pass ! Although the last solo high speed pass of the Blue Angel 2005 season at Pensacola was pretty awsome too ! Maybe 20 ft off the deck and vapor all over the aircraft !

Flying in a B-25 and watching from the upper turret while two Corsairs made "firing" passes during a photoshoot... THANKS TIM!!!

The Lurker and I stood at the end of the runway(just Outside of the fence ) at BIA as two flights of Brit Tornados plus support A/C took off in Afterburner. And then there was Dan McCue shooting a Touch and Go on Sebago Lake With an L-39 . And years ago I saw a pair of Britt VC-10s take off in formation . What a sight/sound that was! Also saw the Concord Launch at dusk once in afterburner, Just spectacular! and all this happened WWAAAYYYYYY UUUUPPPPP HHEEEERRRREEEEE!!!!!!!

While I must in all sincerity say that without a doubt I am a Round Engine freak...and have a soft spot for the Merlin and Allisons. The absolute BEST experiance that made me go WooHOOO....was my first experiance around Concorde at Oshkosh many years ago. I've worked around jetliners for over 24 years...and NOTHING on the planet prepped me for Concorde.

I saw her lined up for take-off...I was standing about less than 100 yards away when she lit her burners, and advanced the throttles. The roar was deafening...but I couldn't bring myself to plug my ears.....and the ground...the ground I was standing on...less that 100 yards away from the plane felt like I was standing on jello. When she rocketed down the runway....I was completely blown away by the whole experiance.

My two cents at least...but you gotta understand...I've been a A&P for a very long time.....most anything ('cept swing wings) gets my blood moving

Well...I get it when hearing the radials chuggin' when starting! As long as I've been around warbirds....It never seems to go away....

But the best was being at Thunder!! And being apart of the crew on Thunderbird.

My number one moment was watching Ed Shipley and Lee Lauderback do loops and rolls in formation is P-51's, that was some skillful flying!

Doesn't have anything to do with Warbirds, but here goes. The sound of the main gear hitting the runway bringing me home from 7 months in Kuwait supporting the Army.

You know you are a nut when...

On your day off, while you are out shopping for a battery for the GFs car and you hear an airplane fly over. Out the door you go, see that it is a friend flying by, coming to breakfast at the local airport. You get a price, walk back out the door and head over to the airport yourself.
About 6 hours later, its back to pick up the battery and put it in.

At the "Corsairs Over Connecticut" event in June, 2005.

Everytime a Corsair started, people clapped & cheered,

when they flew by each time, the clapped & cheered,

and when they came back and shut down, they clapped & cheered!

Wonderful feeling that made me know what WE ALL do is VERY worthwhile.

As much as I like warbirds, my favorite experience was the only time I ever saw the Concorde fly. It came to the Battle Creek/ Kalamazoo about 7 or 8 years ago and was going to do a fly-over of Western Michigan University to salute the aviation school there. I don't live too far from campus, and I was lucky enough to have the Concorde fly directly over my house in the middle of a turn. It was incredible, I don't think anything else I've seen compares to that.
