I have one of these for museum display that is lacking a cylinder -anyone got any idea if the cylinders were fitter to other smalller Lycomings as is sometimes the case?

There are two outfits that rebuild UH-12/H-23s...
Ft. Wolters helicoters in Texas (UH-12Es)
and United helicopters in Florida (H-23 Bs & Cs)..

Ask one of them.

David the cylinders are the same for a 540 and 360 just more of them ,but the trick is there are different types of cylinders narrow deck and wide deck, the narrow deck cylinders are from the older engines and have a plate that goes over the studs and the internal driven nuts rest on that plate , then in each of those types angled valve or parallel valve. I restored a Bell 47 j 2 and had to find cylinders for that engine also i found a list of part numbers that cross referenced different engines and cylinders and ended up with using cylinders of of an completely different engine. I will check with a friend who helped me and see if he remembers if its angled or parallel it was 18 years ago.

Thanks for the great replies guys ! I had a feeling that the cylinders would be used on something else as a friend uses a 0-435 for cylinders for his 0-290 !

David I have more information on your cylinders, you need narrow deck angle head cylinders, io 360 or 540 will work just plug the 1/8 npt threaded hole intended for the injectors, you will also have to drill a hole in the corner of the valve cover for the oli drain tube to be welded in, then connected by a rubber hose to the tube that collects all the cylinders on that side.
