Flying B-17's

Sun Jun 01, 2014 7:11 pm

Just wondering how many B-17 are flying?

Ten, nine of which are in the US and one is in the UK.

There are a few more previously-airworthy ones which have now been parked for a few years and are not currently flown.

You missed Thunderbird! :)

I would say that Thunderbird, Sally B, and Yankee Lady can be included amongst the most actives as well. Chuckie has been flying lately, just not every weekend or every day like some of the others. Fuddy Duddy is the least active of the fliers.

Evergreen's could become active again one day, but we shall see how that pans out.

Yankee Lady flies April through October several times a week, an extremely active B17,our B25, and C47 are pretty busy too !!!

Yankee Lady is also certainly among the best - if not the very best - maintained flyable B-17s as well. She easily could be considered the epitome of restored war-birds.

And the Palm Springs Air Museum example as well which was active up until 2004 at least.

Should we add the French example, "Pink Lady", to the "Maybe again some day" list as well?

Nah, that would be the "Restoration to Flight" list.

In the same category as the Boeing Bee (museum owned, airworthy but not flown) why not include Shoo Shoo Baby?
It would be great in 2035 if the Air and Space Museum took her around Washington....
