Fagen Fighters D-Day Commemoration

Fri Jun 06, 2014 10:50 pm

Here are some photos from the Fagen Fighters D-Day commemoration event held today. It was a beautiful day, with constant flying, and a great opportunity to listen to veterans who were there in Normandy 70-years ago.

And a few more:

In the background is the most recent addition to the museum going up, which will house the Museum's B-25J when it arrives this summer. It was unique to see Jeeps being used as tugs.

Great photos, thanks for posting them.
I just saw the checkerboard tail P-40 last weekend at the Anoka County airport in the Twin Cities.

Ditto on the pics, John.

Seeing Lady Luck got me thinking of the Fagen B-25. Any word on the ramp what her final colors will be? Perhaps more nose art added during OSH (like Ruff Stuff & Twilight Tear)?

Thank you all for the compliments on the photos!

Dan, I haven't heard any confirmation on what the final paint scheme for the Fagen B-25 will be, though I too was wondering if we might see some artwork applied to it when it's at Oshkosh this summer. When I saw it about a month ago, prior to paint, all of the fabric control surfaces appeared to be navy blue, but I don't know if that is any indication of the final paint scheme?

Long road trip aside, any time they have an event like this again, and especially one of their air shows, I'll be going back in a heartbeat.

Your photos turned out much better than mine did!! I really enjoyed Lady Lucks landing with the runway length wheelie!! I got a couple decent shots of that. I thought it was a great collection of warbirds and a super friendly staff, plenty of veterans, just a great experience. They definitely don't do this enough out there.

Thanks for posting those excellent photos John.
Some really nice stuff. What can you tell us about that 109 hanging from the ceiling?

Replica

As Craig mentioned, the 109 is essentially a full-scale replica, said to have been originally a movie prop. They also just added a full-scale fiberglass P-51D on a pole at the entrance to the airport, painted like Bob Hoover's "Ole Yeller", which they had completed for an event in Los Angeles earlier this year, honoring Hoover.

(BTW, Craig, I noted the longer wings on "Sweet Revenge" )

Bomberfan, I'm glad to hear that you were there as well! As you say, it was an all around great event - a perfect atmosphere. Here's the one shot I got of the "Lady Luck" crew doing some textbook aerodynamic braking down the length of the runway.

Those are some great pics John. Sorry I missed being there and meeting up with you by a week. If you ever get through Uvalde TX stop by Wild Warbirds and see me.
