A bit off topic, but a bunch of anti aircraft stuff here, including the 88. Bust open your wallet, IRA, life savings, etc, for the auction of the decade, Jacque Littlefield's Collection this weekend. The Jaques M. Littlefield Collection will be housed in a new purpose built 60,000 + square foot facility on the grounds of the Collings Foundation complex. The collection will
integrate close to 80 of the most historically important vehicles and artifacts with the Collings Foundation’s vehicles and aircraft.

My understanding from people who knew him is that he was well aware the family had no interest or intention of keeping the collection together when he was gone.

My ride home usually takes me within a mile or so of the Collings compound. Tonight I saw the image of a tank with the circle bar over it and the word museum under it. So it looks like the neighbors aren't to thrilled at the prospect of dozens of armored vehicles in the vicinity.

Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. H, chassis number 89457, was most likely built by Nibelungenwerke in February 1944. This vehicle was bought by Syria in the 1950s, probably from Czechoslovakia. It was captured by the Israelis during the Six Day War in 1967. After its capture, it was used as a training vehicle by the Israeli Army. It was then shipped to the Israeli Armor museum at Latrun in 1994. This tank was obtained from Israel by the MVTF in early 2003.

I a little surprised that some of those prices seem low. The Panzer IV seemed like a sure fire sell. I guess the economy is still pretty bad. I'm sure if this auction has happened in 2004-2005 it would have popped some crazy numbers.

Re: the Pzkw Mk IV I read somewhere they were actually imported to Syria from France in the late 1940s. Supposedly there are French data plates on it.

So, about $4.7 Million with that list alone. That will go a very long way to helping get the rest of the collection to the Collings Museum and building their new digs.

Local SF Examiner newspaper today reported that $10.24 million was spent on purchasing sales of nearly all the 122 military vehicles on auction. Bidders were from 10 countries, and 37 U.S. states.

I am not sure where that number came from. The one in the auction went for way more than a GPW should, but it was not that high. The full auction results are posted on the Auctions America website (the listed prices include the buyers premium), so they were not the hammer prices. That is the thing with auctions, there were some deals, and there are items that went for way more than they should.

As for the Panzer IV, it probably would have sold if there would have been 2 people there to bid beyond the 1.75. Once it dropped to one bidder below the reserve, it was clear it would not sell. The high bidder has reached out, but for now it is an item that we are going to keep with the core of the collection.

Again I think their math is a little off. Looks like they may have included the high bids for the items that did not meet reserve. If someone wanted an exact number, the results are all posted so someone could add them all up. Just keep in mind that the total would include the buyers premium which does not go to The Collings Foundation.
