Donations Poll

Thu Feb 16, 2006 8:40 am

I want to thank everyone who has made donations to help support the site. It is greatly appreciated. Apparently Paypal has created a new feature that would allow reoccuring donations to be automatically made each month. I was curious if people would be interested in this option so I have created a poll to see what people think. It's a pay service so unless a bunch of people are interested then I won't bother with it. Just want to know your opions on the subject.

P.S. This vote is anonymous, I have no way of knowing who voted which way :)

I personally think that service would be great! But I think the site is worth much more than $1 or $2 a month.

Scott

very fine with me - it could also be a quarterly or yearly fee -

I'd be happy to contribute a yearly fee up to $100.00 if needed

Cheers

ONE MILLION DOLLARS

Sounds good to me. For me I find this site to be the only one worth donating to.

I think a $1 or $2 a month donation is more than reasonable for people visit on a regular basis (whether they post a lot or not).

How about making anyone who signs up for a $1/month recurring or $12/annual donation a “Silver” member and the $2/month or $24/annual donation a “Gold” member? Add a little icon by the members name showing their support.

Having 2 bucks a month deducted from a PayPal account every month is painless. I’ve had both a personal and a business PayPal account for several years now, and never a problem.

If anyone is afraid of PayPal they can just send an old-fashioned check for $12 or $24.

Let's go!

I'm currently a little uneasy for paying online. I still do phone orders. (yes I'm old fashioned). I believe that a fee would allow people who are heavily interested in these old planes to stay, and this would filter out some of the non-heavily interested. Just my two cents.

I don't think Scott is asking to set up WIX as a fee-based site... just asking if he were to set up a voluntary recurring donation system with Pay Pal, if anyone would use it and what they might contribute.

Think of it like Public Radio or Television for the warbird enthusiast... you don't need to pay for it, but those of you that think you get some value out of it, you can chip a little in to help out the cause! I know that I spend $50+ on magazine subscriptions annually for warbirds and $12-$24 annually to support WRG and WIX is worth it in my opinion.

All this and you never have to worry about those pledge drives!

Exactly right Ryan, the site will NEVER be a pay site. Information should be free. This is purely a donation idea, not a subscription fee. You will never have to pay to visit any part of this site. :)

The money generated would go to supporting the expansion of the site. I want to build the Tech Manual library and that is going to be expensive on the storage space and bandwith end of things. I also want to include video clips in the near future (I was thinking of collecting 8mm films of air shows and such and digitizing them)

I think it's a good idea. Set up the donations icon as the first item on the list above the announcements. That would take you to the paypal page and go from there. I think the diversity of the site and the fact that everyone can express their opinions and ask questions is great. I don't think that $5 to $10 per month is outlandish. I agree with Ryan. I spend at least that much every month on warbird mags.

If you need to put a link up so that I can sign up using this new feature please do. Otherwise, maybe you should remind us what your donation email address is for Paypal.
