This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hey Guys,
Somehow I randomly stumbled across this company's website called FRD, and they have the CFM as one of there clients, showing a new and improved museum potentially in the future. Here's the write up.
Cavanaugh Flight Museum
Dallas, Texas
Since its opening in the early 1990s, the Cavanaugh Flight Museum has delighted visitors with its unique collection of historic aircraft. Currently based at Addison Airport in Dallas, Texas, the museum is undergoing a major redevelopment that will see it form the heart of a new cultural precinct and tell the important story of aviation, particularly as it relates to the people and community of Texas. FRD was engaged to create a new kind of visitor experience and guide the development of the new museum.

Looks exciting and I'm pleased to see that the museum will expand and become more detailed and interactive. But some of the images worry me. They look like static aircraft exhibits, not a flying museum exhibit. Now these designs are only ideas from a hired firm to conceptualize the idea. And there shouldn't be any speculation or jumping to conclusions, but it does make you wonder. Submitted here humbly for discussion and conversation.

How about from the horse's mouth? These were designs that our board and FRD worked on for a bond issue in Addison in 2008. Sorry to say that the bond failed by 12 votes, due to the sudden turmoil in the economy. The Caribou depicted was a fuselage we came across. All of the aircraft, that fly, were in exhibits that allowed them to be moved in and out as needed. No plans to go static. These designs are still in future plans when we start to work on a new museum. No dates as of now.

Knowing how many people here are involved with the CFM I knew it wouldn't take long to get the "skinny" on this. As I said, I didn't want to speculate in any way. Thanks for giving us the real deal. Glad to hear theres no plan to go static. Always exciting to hear of expansion plans like this. Hope you guys get the funding and approval sooner than later!

OT, but what is the status of the P-47N?

No new work done on the P-47N. It is still located at CFM. Remember, it is the CAF's airplane and it is currently up for assignment. Unfortunately, it looks deceptively complete. I can't wait to see it fly again. CFM and the sponsor group have done a great job getting it to the point that it is currently in, but it'll take quite a bit to get going. As always, all it needs is dedication and $$$$

When's the last time Spitfire MT719 flew?
I went by in 2011 and she looked pretty static to me.

Thanks for the discussion.
This made me smile:

For a WASP display, we have Harriet Quimby (1875 - 1912), Amy Johnson (VERY British) a group of (British-based ATA women and Tiger Moths as well as Amelia Earhart and the *bing* Jacqueline Cochran.
Not to knock the designers, obviously it's just a mockup, but shows the danger of doing 'roughly right' job rather than either sticking to the generic 'layout Latin' or working from a provided selection.
Just a little diversion, not in any way important...
