Aircraft Interior Quilted Insulation?

Wed Jul 23, 2014 2:44 pm

Anyone have any information on this stuff? Part numbers or what it's true name is or any manufacturers who currently make it? We are looking for interior green.

We will be needed it for our C-47's interior in the cockpit and Navigators room, but I am also considering putting it throughout the cargo cabin as well, at least until we are ready to tackle the interior restoration head on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you get a positive response to this question, we are in need of some for our 47 as well. Maybe a larger purchase can bring some kind of volume discount!

Definitely! How much do you think you guys will be needing? Might even be able to go out and find a company to make a large batch knowing that X amount is already accounted for.

Make you do the figuring.........................definitely enough for the cockpit thru radio/navigation station. Maybe the whole interior depending on cost.

We had some made by Orcon about two years ago. Try this address and see if it is still a good contact. You have to be very careful about specifying color though because while you may think Fifty Shades of Gray was an exaggeration, there are 10 jillion shades of green and/or gray. You will be stuck with what you get. They make the roll from scratch, so give them a good sample to see the right color matched and quilted pattern desired. JR

At the Yankee Air Force we have been using material from Orcon Aerospace as a previous poster noted. We last ordered a roll of Dark Green 54" wide roll P/N63200-54 the color code is K-311. This is a dark Hunter's Green that matches all old fabric samples we have found in our restorations. You will want to order some plain non-quilted fabric to use for binding the edges, P/N 3402 E-17 Dark Green.

This material meets current MIL specs and comes with certs. It is expensive - in 2010 $1300 for a 50 yard roll of quilted material 54"
wide. I think if several groups share a roll that would make sense. We bought the recent roll for replacement of odd pieces in three airplanes due to wear and hydraulic fluid leaks saturating some lining.

The last phone number I had was 510-489-8100

Is there any reference as to which areas get what thickness? Like it would seem logical to me that exterior walls would get 1/2 but interiors only 1/4, however, logics doesn't seem to always prevail.

Thanks for all the info guys, will get in contact with them to see about a production run. Anyone else interested in possibly going in on it?

"High traffic areas" get the thicker stuff i.e. areas subject to wear and tear near the floor, etc...
