Here's someone else's opinion on FAS Corsair scheme. This one makes more sense to me, i.e., using the "national blue" color as the trim color.

Nice profile! However, FAS 211 was one of the "dark blue scheme" samples. Pictured below is FAS 217 Buno 92460 at Bridgeport, CT c. 1970s. Photo via AEC

Zorro, do you have a list of all the FAS Corsairs and all their paint jobs/markings?

..sure do! As always you'are on the ball of this FAS 201 case study.
FAS 201--->204 were "gull gray" type.
FAS 205--->220 were all dark blue scheme type. (originally) c. 1957-58.
p.s 4 or 5 Navy spares fuselages were dark Navy blue also.

Although I would not call them dive brakes, I have seen films from WWII that show Corsairs making napalm attacks with the landing gear extended.

Because in the B&W photos I've seen of that airplane, the supposedly "yellow" areas are exactly the same tone (shade of gray) as the known light blue areas. And the light blue--the national color--just makes more sense for the wingtips, etc. But a good REAL color photo of the thing would clear it right up.
