12 O'Clock High Series

This may be old news but if not I figured I'd mention it if no one caught it yet. Someone has been loading up Youtube with the shows from the 12 O'clock High tv series. Alot of things from the movie in the first episode but then the shows start to go their own way after that with a few reminders from the movie. The first 2 seasons where B&W and then it goes to color. I liked the movie so these tv shows are interesting to me.

I remember watching these on the local UHF stations in the dark days before cable. Season 1 seemed to try to remain true to the formula in the movies with the emphasis on teamwork. It seemed that the farther they got into the series, the more implausible the story lines became.

So, the question becomes: Which series had the more implausible story lines: 12 O'Clock High or Baa Baa Black Sheep? Like 12 O'Clock High, BBBS's story lines got increasingly implausible in the second year of production. Pappy's Lambs? Really? And, how come they all had 70s hairdos?

Gotta agree about the BBBS hairdos. Seems the nurses that became regular characters had the 70's hair. Also some wore hot pants that would never be seen during WWII. Maybe to attract the younger viewers??

If I remember correctly I think they were trying to compete with Charlie's Angels on another network at the same time.
So, Pappy's Lambs were all babes in tight slacks to try and keep younger viewers tuned in.

I remember Corsairs, Tora, Tora, Tora Zeros, Kates and Vals a P-38, an R4D. Jeeps, Deuce and a halfs, Browning M-2 .50 cal. I don't remember women?

I watched S1E08 last night. They had a P-38 in there doing multiple passes for photo recon in one scene.

About 12 O'clock High...I was reasonably impressed with it while watching the reruns on the local ME TV affiliate.

While the B-17 POF never flew for the cameras, in one (very late) episode, they did have a second Mustang fly (complete with N number) to compliment the all silver one used in many episodes.
Also, in a season 1 story, a US Army Beaver is used to pick up Gen Savage after he's shot down in France.
It's in the 60s gloss OD color scheme, with the modern markings painted over. At least they tried!

Also, in one scene (presumably filmed at Chino), you can see a P-38 in the distant background, and a round engine nacelle of a Twin Beech or Cessna "Bamboo Bomber" the rest of the aircraft is behind a tent.

As a kid in the early 60s, my dad was stationed in Japan. There was no AFN TV then, just radio.
On Japanese TV, they'd show "Combat!"...with the American soldiers fighting Germans and everybody speaking Japanese.
Our maid would translate...(and one might wonder who the Japanese were rooting for...)

Even as a 6 year old I knew that was seriously weird...and it probably led to me having a weird sense of humor today.

That's a hoot! This makes me wonder what Sergeant Saunders sounded like? I'm thinking of the emotive grunts and staccato bursts of speech, similar to Belushi's samurai or other Japanese dialogue in the war movies.
