In Air-Britain's civil aircraft register on the Netherlands (published in 1987), there's an interesting story about a NEIAF Curtiss P-40N, which, in 1950, shot down a Chinese Lisunov Li-2 over Borneo. A Dutch-owned Dakota was turned over to China as compensation for the shoot down.
The C-47 in question was PH-TAZ, C-47A-1-DK c/n 12173, USAAF 42-92379, cancelled on Nov 14, 1950. The afore-mentioned Air-Britain book contains the following information on PH-TAZ; "To China as compensation for a Li-2 which was shot down over Borneo, N.E.I. by a Dutch fighter".
I sent a request for more information to the Dutch AF Historical Section about eight months ago, but no answer yet.
Can anyone add to this incident?
Regards,
Jan
