A-26's of the 416th BG during WW2 ...

Mon Sep 15, 2014 5:11 pm

A very nice collection of 416th BG A-26 photos.
During World War II, the 416th Bombardment Group (L) was composed of 416th Headquarters and four Bombardment Squadrons (L), the 668th (5H), 669th (2A), 670th (F6) and 671st (5C); and was under the operational control of the IX Bomber Command, 97th Combat Bombardment Wing of the 9th Air Force.
All photos courtesy of 416th Bombardment Group Photo Gallerys below and the sites are well worth some time to review.

Xcellent Mark, looking at the lower turret, was wondering how effective it was with the periscope sight :rip:

Great stuff again, Mark - thanks!
Wonder if there are any surviving A-26s that have the early cockpit enclosure they show here.

Edit: Looks like Reida Rae does!

Great Pics! Here's one from the 416th that is still with us! "Reida Rae" at the New England Air Museum!

I'm not biased in anyway when I say this, but the A-26 is one of the best aircraft ever made.

These pics give an excellent perspective of the schemes and gun system types.

Who would want a B-25 when you could have one of these baby's
