Flypast website, http://forum.keypublishing.com/forumdis ... c-Aviation
I don't post on here as much as I used to, I got tired of the internet "experts" who only have read about planes telling me I don't know what I am talking about, vs those of us who WORKED on them for 30+ years.

Quite a few:
Aero Vintage, Wreckchasing, Aircraft Serial Number Search (search engine for Joe Baugher's site), Accident-report.com, Aviation Archaeology, Abandoned and Little-Known Airfields, and any photo site that Mark digs up. I'm not a member at FlyPast, but I probably should be.

ProPilotWorld.com. It requires, and verifies, that you have a commercial or ATP, and it has a $12-a-year subscription fee. No gamers, no armchair experts, no wannabes.

Scott, a big thanks for posting such a question! I'm with tom d. friedman; this is the only aviation website I check in on regularly, but it's very interesting to see the responses and check out the sites ... whenever I get a little extra time to kill which ain't often.

This one, Hyperscale (which is a model airplane site, but there's an awesome amount of knowledge there on almost any aviation topic you could think of), and Little Friends (8AF WWII fighter units).

Oh, just thought of a couple more: Skyraider.org, and the VNAF site.

I don't really have any 'far ahead of the pack' favorites, that includes WIX and my own sites/blogs.

As far as information alone, the AAIR site has been invaluable to me, as have Joe Baugher's pages. Also, fuselagecodes.com... I'd actually wanted to start my own site on that subject, but immediately shelved it upon discovering that site. It's been quite invaluable as well.

As far as photos go, if I had to pick one... or two... I'd probably have to go with Flickr and Fold3, neither of which are exclusively aviation-related, of course. But the NARA USAAF photo content on Fold3 is fan-freakin-tastic for someone who will probably never get back to D.C. again and visit the Archives. And Flickr... the SDASM's photostream alone is pure dynamite... and there's many more gems to be found in other photostreams, if you spend entirely too much time trawling. =P

Fade to Black...

Tailhook Topics is a great site for anything to do with the technicals of US Naval aircraft. If there's something you need to know and Tommy hasn't already posted about it, just ask him and he'll try to run it down.

Honestly,

I'm on WIX almost everyday. Very informative for a neophyte like me. Second is Aero Vintage.

slight detour...has anyone here ever MET Joe Baugher? Anybody know the stats for his pages? And does anyone besides me sometimes just click on a random page of his and read it?

Barnstormers.com. Browse the Warbirds and Antique-Classic categories every day.

AAFO.com for air racing. There are alot of inane comments and discussions, but Some of the great and near-great pilots and engine builders participate and offer insights into what it takes to compete at Reno.
