The Stirling was the RAF's first heavy bomber. It carried the bombing campaign in the early years and became a key aircraft as a glider tug on D-Day. An RAAF pilot Flt Sgt Ron Middleton won the VC in a Stirling..

Even though it was the first of the four-engined trio to become operational I'm not sure it 'carried the bombing campaign in the early years'. I would say that the Vickers Wellington did more than its share in this regard, supplemented by the Hampden and Whitley at the very beginning.

Just my opinion.

Still a great video that shows human ingenuity at it's best............

Mass production of such a complex early WW2 bomber design really shows how far we have came along for precise sub-assemblies of complex aircraft during the war.......and of course culminating with the B-29.
