New "Unbroken" trailer...now with B-24s

Fri Oct 17, 2014 6:06 pm

CGI as expected, with studio mockups for the interior shots. The aircraft scenes don't look too bad all things considered..certainly no worse than a lot of the old school model shots in older films. A little strange that they used a single open tail gun setup like "Diamond Lil" when the aircraft is supposed to be a B-24D, but I suppose getting ahold of a Consolidated A6 turret is next to impossible, especially for just a few brief scenes. The interior mockups look a little simplified, but good enough for movie purposes (and my Inner Model Geak can't help but notice they got the interior colors wrong.) Considering the B-24 sequences are a fairly small part of the overall movie, I give them kudos for making the effort rather than using B-17 or B-25 as a stand-in. This one is definitely on my "must see" list. pop2

I'm definitely looking forward to this movie.

A friend of mine from Australia helped make that mock up. He is from what I can tell pretty well versed in scale planes. I wonder if the color being off was a mistake or done purposely. I'll ask him.

Not sure about D models; but, my dad was in B-24J's in the Pacific. They removed the power turret and built a station similar to Diamond Lil's. He said they did it for extra range, less heat in the aircraft and easier to bailout if the A/C was going down.

I wondered about that. I knew some later Pacific B-24s had open hand-held tail gun setups, and hand-held guns replacing the ball turret, but I wasn't sure about the earlier D models.

If I remember from the book the "Green Hornet" was a heavily modified -D and was technically an E model. I can't can't wait to see it.
