Thanks CoastieJohn, fascinating stories, interesting link on the SS Buskø. A confusing and dubious episode showing how often the 'two sides' of war can be much more complex.

At this stage Norway had been invaded and a puppet government set up so the country technically was allied with the Axis powers, though with the king, and his existing government in exile, being recognised as the legitimate leadership of the country, with free forces and a resistance fighting on the side of the Allies.

There's one obvious clue though in the 109 photos. See if anyone catches it

Not confusing really, 'Norge' is Norwegian for Norway, hence its widespread appearance on the side of their vessels in wartime.

Sorry, quite right. There were some famous ships called Norge, but these are national markings on SS Buskø - obviously didn't work.

In late 1945 a brief notice appeared in a Pittsbusrhg newspaper of an LST docked in the Monongahela River carrying war prizes for exhibit. It mentions a Baka on display. Apparently, the LST travelled to east coast ports, cities along the Mississippi River and adjacent larger rivers.
