I remember working on [corrected]CH-34 avionics systems in Germany in the late 1960's. We had a crazy Chief Warrant Officer test pilot, and during one Reforger it was said he had outflown and forced to the ground an OPFOR OH-23. Hard to say if it actually happened, but empty the CH-34 could really manoever.

The avionics were just as old as the aircraft, and the ADF's (AN/ARN-6) were so unsteady that while I was in Hanau they brought in a shielded room with fltered power just to align them in. Alas, it didn't help.

On a related note...there is an ad in Trade-A-Plane for a flying S-55 for sale...just $169,000.
It's a real S-55...its first owners were New York Airways in 1956.

BTW: If I had the money, I'd get it or restore a ex military H-19 in classic 1950s MATS ARS colors.
