Very proud to announce that the remains of a MIA WWII P-38 pilot who's crash site I helped locate on Guadalcanal has be positively IDed by DNA by JPAC.
His P-38J s/n 43-28570 #400 has also been recovered in remarkable condition from a fresh water bog and is being stored.
Major Peyton Mathis Jr CO 44th FS will be buried with full military honors in his hometown of Montgomery, AL in the near future.

I can't help but be curious if you have any historical images of Major Mathis and, or, his P-38.
I truly know that you did not participate in this undertaking for yourself, but for Major Mathis and his family.
