It's not the same airplane, but close. Don't ask where I found these photos. I've had them for a long time and I really can't recall.

True, it's not the same plane as your fine B/ws do show. My 1st pic shows an a/c with traces of the XF4U-4 center section wing. It's poss the 2nd XF4U-1 was entirely rebuilt vs restoring/welding/riveting the old fuselage crashed section.

p.s Are u able to see the Buno of your a/c in High resolution?? Prob 0215X series??

Hi Gents,

I've not got anything on the first photo, which resembles a number of photos taken at Wright Field. If you have a collection and neg number, I can try to dig it out and look for accompanying information.

The second photo set (all from 15 July 1942) shows the first production airframe (BuNo 02153) at the Stratford plant. Even when the serial can't be read, this aircraft seems to be the only Corsair to use all-blue prop blades with red and yellow tip stripes.

Tks for your info & data on the above pics. Unfortunately, I do not have a neg #/data of the 1st pic, meaning I'll have to more digging in my archives. I'm very interested to know its Buno. This seems to be a back-up Vought built aircraft fm parts of the 1st XF4U-1.

Do you have a higher resolution of the 1st F4U showing Buno 02153? If you do plz post. Tks in advance.

I can't add any useful identification, but what stands out to me is that the aircraft in the first photo has the extended tail wheel that was fitted to improve carrier landings.

zorro9 here's the other photos that were included in the series of your photo. I've had these a long time as well but if I recall there was a website selling larger copies of these photos. Just cannot remember off hand. So for those concerned ... no! I have no source for these photos either.

BTW zorro9 I just received three new CD's loaded with Corsair photos from the National Archives from a client of mine who spent two weeks there. I'll be posting some nice threads soon once I complete the descriptions for some of them. keep an eye out ... just not literally

First pic looks like P&W's airport in East Hartford, CT., while most of the others appear to have been taken on the water front, near the Sikorsky Seaplane Ramp, in Stratford, CT.
