Driving NORTH on I-15, somewhere in the Salt Lake City area, I noticed on the right (East) side of the interstate, an F-86 mounted atop a pole.

Late night, high speed, unfamiliar with the terrain, I chose to continue driving and ask here if anyone has identified this airplane and can post a photo of it?

Saludos,

Tulio

It could have been at Hill Air Force Base. They have a nice museum with a number of classic aircraft such as a B-29. I have not been by there for a while, but I assume all the planes are still on display. It is definitely worth a stop.

Nope.

Hill AFB is in Ogden, North of Salt Lake City.

This F-86 was on the East side of the interstate, atop a pylon and lighted, probably a VFW or similar location, I would guess, but still within Salt Lake City.

The F-86 you're talking about is located in Draper, Utah in front of the Utah National Guard Headquarters. The bird is on the East side of the highway. It's been there since at least 1994.

Ray

You ought to see they set up they have for Christmas! Lets just say Santa ends up with a heck of seat for the season!

Tulio - too bad you were blazing through - you should stop at Hill AFB and then really make an excuse and swing out to Wendover!

Tom:

On my way back, depending on routing and time schedules, I will try to make it to Wendover and finally get to meet you.

Tulio
