A list of PBY survivors shows 2 with Connie Edwards and another 2 with CAF Minnesota. Are any of these 4 Linas flying now or expected to this next year?

George, Both of Connie's are airworthy and fly regularly. Beautiful aircraft. I've always felt bad for the ground crews who ever had to recover a Catalina wing... That's a lot of stitches.

To the best of my knowledge, the 2 Catalinas under restoration by the CAF in Duluth are being combined into one airworthy aircraft. The wing from the Blue one (Bu64097) is being mated with the fuselage frpm the Red one (Bu64092). I do not believe it will be airworthy in 2015.

Taylor, thanks for that info on both Edwards PBYs actively flying. I used to see one at the Breckenridge shows painted to honor Naval Aviation, but unaware he had another, until I saw the survivor list.
Bryan D, I am guessing the blue one is the one blown over by high winds. I seem to recall it was airworthy when it got flipped over. Too bad it will take both to get one in the air again. Thanks for clarifying the situation.

The PBY to which you are referring is NC-4. The other one is a custom yacht PBY and is awesome. It is called "The Turtle". Here's an article I found on NC-4. Tex and Connie flew it on quite a trip. Tex did a lot of the flying... He was around 15-16 years old at the time. Tex was an impressive pilot, friend, and personality.

Yes, they are fabric covered from the spar aft to the trailing edge.

They are fabric, but what kind of fastening device? Were they all sewn or did they have mechanical fasteners, screw, rivets, clips, etc.? The Grumman clips are a real pain in the you know what on re-fabric jobs. Easy way would be PK screws, save a lot of bloody fingers!
