If it is restored in say 20 years, many of us here wont be around to see it. I'm beginning to wonder if I will see the Swoose restored in my lifetime.

You will see the Swoose. It is next after the Belle. As for the XC-99, I have no clue. But I will say that it is not nor was it ever being scrapped. That comes from that dude on fb.

Sounds like good news. I just think people are assuming it has no chance of being saved and are writing it off(including me) if it's going to the desert then there MUST be future plans of preservation for it. :drink3:

That is very questionable at best. The Memphis Belle is still 3+ years away from completion and the Swoose is a 15 year restoration job at least.

evergreen made room for Hughes's Hercules..... indoors!!....... surely a museum could make room for the 99!! just because it's not a glamorous bomber, etc, doesn't mean it deserves the :crispy: the torch.

1) Noboby (apart from guy on Facebook who heard it from a guy who was told it by another guy) is saying it will be scrapped

2) Unlike the H-4, which was stored in a climate-controlled hangar, the XC-99 needs major (= expensive) work before it can be reassembled for display.

Ah yes. "I read on Facebook" is the modern version of, "I heard this from someone who knows someone who swears it is true..."
Old fishing stories are more reliable.

And the more ubiquitous from the car shows, "My uncle's friend had one of those when I was in high school, its a 1962 Mercury Mustang with a numbers matching 351 Cleveland." :axe:

Glad to see the XC-99 is going to be put someplace safe until she can be in one piece again.
