This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Yanks in Chino has two F-14As. They traded their third one to Planes of Fame.

Mike, thank you for interjecting your worthless political opinion in an otherwise interesting discussion. I know you were trying to elicit a response, so I just wanted to indulge you.

So, they purchased them from the Navy outright? Or, they're "on loan" from NMNA like every other one is?

The moratoreum is on flight, anyway, so unless Iran wants to sell their Tomcats, there won't be any flying in the US in provate hands soon.

I don't know the specifics unfortunately.

How are they "demiled" to prevent future flying? Spars cut?

I know BDK is in the area and probably sees these airframes from time-to-time, but for the benefit of others, here are pictures of the F-14s at Yanks and PoF...

PoF - "160686"

Yanks - "160686"

Yanks - 158985

Yanks - 162687

Yanks - 160928

http://community.webshots.com/photo/268 ... 1775SbmELN

As you can see in some of these pictures, "demilled" at the very least includes removal of the engines. It also seemed that at the time Yanks had a small scale scrapping operation underway. I didn't ask to confirm.

One item of note. The airframe at the PoF had a panel on one side with the BuNo markings "160686". One of the airframes at Yanks had the opposite panel with the same BuNo marked on it. It would seem that parts have been swapped. If anyone is going to be visiting these museums could you take a closer look at these two airframes? It would be nice to confirm the IDs of these two F-14s.

bdk,

I feel that your comment is unwarranted. I am therefore asking you politely you to edit it accordingly.

Thank you.

Mike,

Several websites, including Yanks own and the F-14 Tomcat Association, list '160671' as being in the Yanks collection.

http://www.yanksair.com/planes.htm

http://www.f-14association.com/display.htm

Looking at the picture in the Registry of '160671' I'd say that the Yanks '160686' airframe you have pictured is in fact '160671'. Therefore, logically, the true '160686' should be the one at PoF.

I hope this helps.
