U.S. Navy firefighters battle flames engulfing a U.S. Marine Corps Vought F4U-1D Corsair of Marine Fighting Squadron VMF-112 after a crash on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Bennington (CV-20). VMF-112 was assinged to Carrier Air Group 82 aboard the Bennington. The carrier joined Task Group 58.1 on 8 February 1945 at Ulithi. Operating out of Ulithi, she took part in the strikes against the Japanese home islands (16–17 February and 25 February) -

A U.S. Navy Curtiss SB2C-4E Helldiver of Bombing Squadron 6 (VB-6) in flight over the Pacific Ocean. VB-6 operated SB2C-3, -3E, -4, and -4E versions of the aircraft during its combat tour aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock (CV-19) from March to September 1945. Note letter U on the tail identifying the aircraft as being assigned to that carrier, which replaced the "G-symbols" in July 1945. The aircraft features nose art, rare on carrier-based aircraft, proclaiming it to be "The Hannah Special". "Hannah" was the nickname of USS Hancock.

A captured German Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 (W.Nr. 681497, "White 11") of 5./JG 4 at St. Trond airfield, Belgium, circa 1 January 1945. This aircraft was flown during on 1 January 1945 by Corporal Walter Wagner who was hit by flak during the attack over St. Trond airfield. The engine died and he had to make an emergency landing. The weapons have obviously been removed. The photo was taken by the resident USAAF 404th Fighter Group. -

This World War II photograph shows future Astronaut Donald "Deke" K. Slayton (on right) and 1st Lt. A U.S. Marine Corps Grumman F6F-5N Hellcat of VMF(N)-511 is launched from the deck of the escort carrier USS Block Island (CVE-106) off Okinawa on 10 May 1945. Mechanics dubbed this aircraft the "Hangar Queen" because it had been "down" several times in one week for minor repairs. Here, "Hangar Queen" is about to head for Sakashima in support of the Okinawa campaign. The catapult officer in the foreground resembles a baseball umpire calling a strike on the Japanese by launching this plane. -

I especially like the NMF A-24. Don't think I've seen that pic before. Now, where did I put that old Monogram SBD kit?
