Just let us know when we'll actually be able to see it. Personally, due to their being zero evidence of FAS-201 beyond its damage in El Paso, my belief is that El Salvador either received a refund for that particular plane (depending on who had custody of it during the ferry flight) or it was scrapped in an effort to tie up the loose end of having a Salvadoran fighter sitting derelict in Texas. The damage was quite extensive for the day, given the value of the plane (roughly $8700). It would have been far easier to simply obtain another flyer straight from storage IMO, and the Military Assistance Program would have made it quite easy to do so. It would take an amazing leap of faith to believe anything to the contrary, given the absolute vaccum of verifiable evidence. I would like to believe it survived as well, but not to the point of trying to establish some amazingly acute theory to make it true. I'm willing to make a reach, but certainly not to the moon and back.

I think that back in 1957, with so many Corsairs being retired and stored, it would have been much easier to take one of the many out of Lichtfield (or other) to substitute FAS 201. The extension of the damage (right wing bent up, damaged flaps, stabilizers, rudder/tail, might be repairable for current standards, but back then, I guess it wouldn't have been cost effective).
I have always had the impression that FAS 201 pictures were actually taken pretty much later after the accident, and that they show signs that there was no intention to recover it. If you check the complete series of Bower's pictures, you"ll notice that gunbay doors are not secured, they are partially open, as are some other inspection panels. Not the way to leave an a/c behind if you intend to recover it.
And, maybe I am going to far, but I have always thought that there is two kind of damage seen in Bower's pictures: the one evidently coming from some kind of accident, I would guess a taxiing sharp left turn, right wing (and stabilizer?) scratching the floor. But then, the damage to the rudder fabric looks to me like deterioration due to outdoors storage.
Anyway, maybe I am wrong, but I think that the FAS 201 pictures at El Paso, were taken several months (maybe years) after the 1957 mishap.

MAL: (g) much better & more logical response this a.m! Tks. We'are bck into the perimeter of things. While I recognize that both of you may have a point based on the c. '57-'58 FAS 201 photos, now there's a Canadian fellow Wixer who claims that the FAS 201 ground loop may be questionable.

While we wait for his response & version of things (ground loops) I include the pic below of the Holland colleagues Acidg.org. They do claim it's Buno 67087. I'm about to find their sources.

p.s ... here another opinion fm a A&P guy now working on an FG-1D himself!! 12-24-14 Via Wix!! I think it's out of question to think that in c.'57 any pilot who bought a WW surplus a/c could get a refund fm US in case of a crash or ground loop accident. Plus we are talking the NAVY folks disposal at Litchfield Pk here c. 1957... a place where pics were not allowed to be taking! Just a note.

I'm no expert and no very little about the FAS birds, but is it too far out there thinking, to have repaired this aircraft as long as the engine, gear and structure were not tweeked? A new outer wing panel, flap, horizontal stab, elevator, and rudder could have easily been changed and the aircraft back to flying from what can be seen in this picture.
Having recently cut open the fabric on the flight controls of Corsair #92050, the fabric on the rudder and aileron appear to have been cut open and not from deterioration.

I'm done beating my head against this rock. If this subject is a serious matter for you Carlos, then it's time to inquire directly with the FAS veterans who managed the FAS Corsair fleet. Circle jerking about the effects of ground loops and the possibility of potential identity swaps based on unsubstantiated evidence is a complete waste of everyone's time. I share your enthusiasm for finding the answers, but the question has to be taken directly to the source. Do you have any names or contact info for any of the officers in charge of the FAS Corsair fleet during the 1950s/60s? They are the only folks who are going to be able to resolve this. I will contact the airport in El Paso and see if they can tell me who the airport manager was in the late 1950s. With luck he's still alive and perhaps recalls what became of this plane.

Thank you, Jack, I think everybody knows that. Only this time his "False 211" (and the false 201, and the false 217) campaign was going to far, it is misleading, disinforming, and makes so many mistakes about topics that have been known for years now!
