It seems as though there is an increased interest in finding military aircraft sections or remains by members of WIX. I have accumulated some old DOD Surplus Sales Catelogs from late 1970 through the early 2000's and I have attempted to keep track of some of the aircraft remains being offered. I will be listing only aircraft and helicopters that are not essentually whole or near complete. I am not listing useable parts such as engines, instruments or interior components that would be normally listed in separate catelogs.
For almost all of the scrappings, there is no trail. Once in awhile I would obtain the winning bidders list which might be a start in locating pieces of partial airframes. I've heard of more than one story of salvage yards that have uncovered aircraft remains that have been covered over by other scrap.
I imagine most scrap from these DOD sales were bought by local salvage operations, so someone fishing for souvenirs or that "Great Find" might check their local scrap dealers, especially near old military bases. I know there are issues in letting a person into a yard to go hunting, but an inquiry first would be in order. If anything, some of these sales might conger up ones memory of hearing of these aircraft remains being sold or resold elsewhere.
This is probably a futile attempt at giving someones hobby a shot in the arm. I am not listing whole aircraft or helicopters that were listed by DOD, as they most likely would not be purchased by a salvage yard, nor anything out of Davis-Monthan. If there is little interest in these listings, I will vacate...

Sale Date........Aircraft Remains......Sale location..........Buyer If Known

29 Sept 1970.......2) A-1.........NAS Quonset Point, RI...... Russo Salvage, Bristol RI
6 Oct 1970......B-58 Pods..........Grissom AFB, IN
18 Nov 1970.......F-102A..............Sheppard AFB, TX
19 Nov 1970.......C-97G...............NAS Willow Grove
1 Dec 1970......C-119, B-50........Chanute AFB, IL

I will start another listing for 1971 under a separate heading...
