Hey Jim,

Awesome photos for sure.

I think he is asking if the ball turret works as it was having severe problems at the last bomber camp. I asked Gary if they had worked on it and they didn't.

Do you know if it is currently operable?

Yes I was curious as if the turret is working, we changed the brushes but were unable to check for power at the junction box area.

Unfortunately nothing has been done to the turret since the last camp. There are other priorities in maintaining the airframe. Now that we are planning a camp we will do everything in our power to get it working properly. Stay tuned.

Jim

Jim,

Can you hint strongly that finding the bomb hoist frame would also be a fairly high priority

That WOULD make it a lot easier and more authentic for the camp.

Hah! Geez you guys want everything! I'll see if there is one at the shop. I know we had one given to us a few years ago for the 24, anyone know if they are the same part?

Jim

They are not. The B-17 hoist is a big "D" shaped affair, the 24 has two little ones that are also the aux turret retraction system

Depot 51 in Kingman made a big deal about supplying one to Collings, so there should be one around somewhere.
