This is close to on topic so - did anyone else see the article in Aviation Week and Space Technology about the "blackstar" program? It is a two stage to orbit space plane. the interesting part is that it is launched from an XB-70 type plane! HA I KNEW THERE WAS ANOTHER AIRFRAME OR TWO OUT THERE  Ok, maybe not but it is certainly interesting to think about! The article says the plane is called an SR-3 but most people who have seen it landing in New Mexico at Hollaman AFB and Kadena AFB have thought they were seeing an XB-70.

Cheers!

Tom P.

Thankyou very much for the very interesting link - I hope one day all of this is revealed - it would be tragic if it gets scrapped behind closed doors.

An interesting article indeed. It's amazing how much R & D goes on in the black programs where funding isn't disclosed.

I thought about this a bit last night - I wonder if Rutan's project hasn't had an impact on this project (assuming it is real). I mean, here is a guy with relatively no money (millions as opposed to unlimited budget) and he puts together a very similar vehicle! I suppose that would suddenly raise some eyebrows as to justifying the amount of money spent.

I'd still like to see an operational XB-70 thou. . . . :D

I am going to say it is a nice story.

If it is true, than I would love to see it flying, hehe.

The XB-70 is one sharp aircraft. The one in Dayton is gorgeous.
