Bill, she's been flying in England for the last 40-years, sporting several different paint schemes and configurations over those years. The aircraft had last been used by the French as a surveyor before moving to England, and over the years in operation as a warbird was modified over time, including modifications to make the aircraft look like a B-17F for the making of the movie "Memphis Belle" in 1989, at which time, besides other changes, the Cheyenne tail turret was removed and an earlier stinger tail was fitted, as well as an earlier top turret. http://www.sallyb.org.uk/

This is how she looks today, with mostly "Memphis Belle" markings overall, to commemorate its film role. The checkerboard cowling is to honor the late Ted White, who had a Harvard with the same checkerboard markings on the cowl. Photos by Richard Tranfield.

One of the all-time favorite P-38 schemes IMHO. Tragic loss and much missed.

One of my favorites too, Mark, of all current/past warbirds. That paint scheme had similar traits/appeal to that of other warbird schemes like the P-47 "Snafu" and the P-51 "Happy Jack's Go Buggy" - very '40s/wartime/gaudy/iconic.

Still with turrets, although they are fiberglass fakes. Looks good though!

I believe that's actually John Crewdson buzzing Bovingdon during the filming of The War Lover (note "U.S. Air Force" on the ambulances).
