The rest of the Omaka show seemed like a world class success. Some really cool and fun looking features!

It really was. This year's Omaka was the best show I've been to, including several times at Wanaka. Great range of machines, entertaining displays, and some amazing flying (not to mention great weather 90% of the weekend).

For those reading the Mirror/Mail story: the MID-AIR EXPLOSION is a dummy V-1 made from wood and foam that was blown up on Sunday during the (very cool) final battle sequence.

I was sitting up in the Gold Pass Stand with my friends watching the 190 land and just as I thought Frank Parker had pulled off yet another nice landing she started to curve. I've never seen an aircraft accident in person before but what a horrible feeling as the gear collapsed! My face must have been a picture watching one prop blade fly straight up about 30 feet and come down again. My wife Teresa came back to see us looking a little upset and wondered what had happened. I just pointed. But I saw it later, after the show on Sunday, in JEM Aviation's hangar so work is most likely under way making an appraisal of the work needed to get her airworthy again. The low point of that Friday was more than made up for by the arrival of the MK XIV Spitfire (owned by the 190 owner!) after it's first flight the day before.
