Re: Doolittle Raid B-25B Questions?

I've read that the Japanese have retrieved the noseart of the Ruptured Duck and placed it in a museum in Tokyo. Anyone wanna volunteer to go take some pictures of it?

I think this is the Mitchell over at Honolulu due to the position of the panel lines, but I must admit that it's very similar to Lovelace's sketches.

Also, can anyone tell me whether the entire cowl rings were repainted OD or the demarcation line was painted on them?

The artwork on the restored B-25 is based on the movie. Also the real Ruptured Duck did not have any rings painted on the engines.

Doesn't seem to be based on the movie. Movie Duck:

Corporal Lovelace's sketch:

Also, yes, the Duck did have painted rings. Belonging to the 95th Bombardment Squadron, the aircraft had hers painted bright yellow. However, photographic evidence, mostly in this thread, show that they were painted over in Olive Drab before boarding the Hornet. However, no pictures seem to show whether the cowl rings were painted entirely OD or had Neutral grey at the bottom, as a continuation of the demarcation lines.

At the time of the raid, they did not have colored rings on the Duck. In the movie it depicts them still having the colored rings. The one on the restoration is different than what Ellen Lawson sent me.

I am aware that they were not painted on the raid, but what I'm asking is were they entirely OD or did they have a demarcation line like the rest of the engine? Also, can you please send me what Mrs. Lawson sent you? Would be very helpful so that I don't have to settle for that TSOT noseart I've been using thus far on my paintscheme.

It's too bad the raid's Top Secret nature means lack of photographs. So far we've only seen photographic evidence of two of the aircraft (McElroy's Avenger and Greening's Hari Kari-er), while around 8 or so have some name associated with them and or some noseart (Whiskey Pete, The Green Hornet, Ruptured Duck, Whirling Dervish, Fickle Finger/Fickle Finger of Fate depending of the source, Hari Kari-Er/Hari Carrier depending on the source, Avenger, TNT and Bat Out of Hell).

While I'm not sure how related to the thread this is, does anyone have any clear pictures of a B-25B's left exhaust stack? I managed to whip this up, but I don't think it's very accurate:

Also, is the noseart? I haven't been able to find any real pictures of Watson's ship and had to use paintings for reference.

The NMUSAF "Doolittle B-25-B" was displayed for years with "warts" on the engine nacelles. After every ten year old kid who ever built a Revell B-25B questioned the docents about the nacelles on the displayed plane, rather than replace the component, they chose to cover them with OD tarps.

Long and short....I question the nacelles displayed in your excellent art work. I am sure others will comment.

Also the top turret is too far forward....should be back amidships...

Also, ditch the fuselage mounted gun packs!

I think I forgot to mention: This is a skin I made for War Thunder. The game only has the B-25H, J-1 (pictured here), J-20 and J-22. While some elements, like the pitot tubes, could be removed through the alpha channel, removing the gun pods would result in their machine guns "floating",as all MGs are mapped to the same spot (So either remove all or keep all). The exhaust ejectors, which I tried removing as well, have holes in the 3d model itself, so it'd look weird. So in short:
It's a paintscheme. On this paintscheme, fake windows, exhaust stacks and B-25B panel lines were added to make it look like a B. I do not have any 3d modelling skills (wish I did).
