1952 Sikorsky UH-19D “Chickasaw” 52-7573 Restoration

Wed Apr 22, 2015 6:23 am

We now have a crew in place of Sikorsky employees, volunteering their time after work and on weekends to help get our H-19 back in shape for display in the next 12-18 months.

Lots more photos at https://www.flickr.com/photos/cherrybomb13/sets/72157651697208279/

We are looking for a pair of control stick grips if anyone has a spare in their parts bin.

Also if anyone hand any crew compartment photos our of Hopalong at Wright Patterson, I would be very interested to see how they finished their interior.

Wow...a flashback. That looks like the same MGB and MRH used on the H-52's I use to work on.

The reduction box is different, the MGB support tubes are different and a few accessories are missing from this angle but ya, it pretty much looks the same.

Can't wait to see the finished restoration on this one. But 52-7573 is actually an H-19B Chickasaw (later UH-19B) delivered to the Air Force in May 1954 rather than an Army UH-19D version.

Is it going to be restored in the original USAF H-19B paint scheme?

That's interesting jwc50. The State of CT had it listed for years as a D. Ill look into it.

Back in late 2011, SIDSIKO had this to say about your H -19:

Drew, the example you have is H-19B 52-7573, which left the factory on delivery to the USAF on the 6th of May 1954.
The early part of its history is unknown to me at present, but it moved from 3636 MSU Group at Stead to the 3750 MSU Group at Sheppard on the 21st of January 1966. It then went to 3630 FTA Wing at Sheppard on the 31st March 1966 before being retired into Davis Monthan AFB on the 18th of June 1967. It was struck off charge there on the 23rd of September 1969.

In that same thread is a picture of the modification data plate in the aft fuselage identifying it as a H-19B.

In addition, the FAA registry shows it as a UH-19B.

In the background of photo #4, there seems to be a H-19 cabin door...restored in USAF colors.
So I'd guess it would be finished in USAF markings.

That bottom shot looks like a stiff from Flight From Ashyia.

A bit of nice H-19s shots in there.

Craig,
As usual its an issue of paperwork, correct serial but incorrect accounting. I stand corrected. We do not have the actual data plate for the aircraft, it was removed by the state.

Yes it will be finished in USAF livery as she served.
